The Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache is a standardised test for non-native speakers who wish to study or conduct research at a German university. It is recognised worldwide and is a prerequisite for admission to almost all German universities — with no expiry date.
The TDN levels
The result is given as a TDN level for each of the four sections individually:
Conditional admission possible. Some universities accept TDN 3; others require TDN 4.
3Full admission at almost all German universities. The most commonly required result.
4Highest result. Corresponds to very high language competence. Preferred by top universities.
5Format & tasks
The digital TestDaF has been offered since 2020. The exam takes place on a computer at the test centre. Navigation is one-directional — answered questions cannot be changed.
